Since the thermal expansion of high-temperature-resistant materials is of great interest, the Linzeis L75 dilatometer series can be equipped with graphite furnaces to enable measurements within the required range.

At a certain point, thermal analysis requires temperatures exceeding 2,000 °C. For example, the analysis of graphite or other cathode materials for high-voltage conductors can easily reach temperatures of up to 2,800 °C.

These materials do not melt or decompose when heated in an inert atmosphere and can therefore be used for this type of application.

In this example, a graphite sample was tested using a Linseis L75 high-temperature dilatometer from room temperature (RT) to 2,800 °C.

The sample chamber was evacuated and filled with inert gas before a heating rate of 5 K/min was applied.

The green curve indicates the absolute expansion, the red curve shows the relative expansion, and the blue curve shows the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE).

The sample exhibited nearly linear behavior across the entire range.
