The glass-ceramic reference material BCR 724 is an opaque material with high strength, high heat resistance, and low thermal expansion.
Due to its excellent mechanical properties, it has various applications, such as kitchen appliances, antenna windows, and radomes.
BCR 724, a standard glass-ceramic, was tested using the Laserflash LFA L52 . For the measurement, a small disc 1 mm thick and 1 inch in diameter was cut from a slab and coated with graphite.
The LFA measures the thermal conductivity as a direct function of temperature. The data on specific heat (Cp) were determined using a comparative method in which a known ceramic standard was measured under the same conditions in a second sample position of the same sample holder.
Using these values, the thermal conductivity was calculated as the product of density, specific heat, and thermal conductivity.
The results show a slight decrease in thermal conductivity and heat conductivity, while the specific heat capacity increases with temperature.
