The thermal properties of a single 300-mm-long weld made with AWS A5.18 wire, welded to a base plate of AISI 1045 steel, were measured using a Linseis LFA L52 Laser Flash measuring device.
The thermal conductivity of the AISI 1045 steel substrate changed from 45 W/(m * K) to 35 W/(m * K) during the measurement run as the temperature rose from room temperature to 520 degrees.
The goal of this study was to improve the understanding of the process and the quality of numerical predictions for an additive wire arc manufacturing (WAAM) process.
