LFA 1000 – Determination of welding heat source parameters

The thermal properties of a single 300 mm long seam of AWS A5.18 wire welded onto an AISI 1045 steel base plate were measured using a Linseis LFA 1000 Laser Flash test machine. The material properties of the AISI 1045 steel substrate shifted from 45 W/mK to 35 W/mK during the measurement run from room temperature to 520 degrees. This study aimed to enhance process understanding and improve the numerical prediction quality of a wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) process.
