A medi\u00e7\u00e3o precisa da expans\u00e3o t\u00e9rmica \u00e9 essencial para o desenvolvimento de novas ligas e para a avalia\u00e7\u00e3o de componentes como cord\u00f5es de soldadura. A TMA \u00e9 tamb\u00e9m ideal para detetar e quantificar transi\u00e7\u00f5es de fase, como a transforma\u00e7\u00e3o martens\u00edtica. A deforma\u00e7\u00e3o a longo prazo e os processos de relaxamento dependentes do tempo tamb\u00e9m podem ser medidos de forma fi\u00e1vel utilizando este m\u00e9todo.   <\/p><p>Um estudo recente descreve a elevada relev\u00e2ncia das medi\u00e7\u00f5es de TMA para a carateriza\u00e7\u00e3o dos a\u00e7os no que respeita \u00e0s suas transi\u00e7\u00f5es de fase e comportamento de expans\u00e3o (Bhattacharya et al., 2023). Para materiais de elevado desempenho em particular, salientam que a TMA \u00e9 um dos poucos m\u00e9todos que pode registar simultaneamente e de forma compar\u00e1vel a intera\u00e7\u00e3o entre temperatura, carga mec\u00e2nica e altera\u00e7\u00e3o de volume. Outro artigo mostra que a combina\u00e7\u00e3o de TMA com controlo atmosf\u00e9rico direcionado \u00e9 tamb\u00e9m vantajosa para a garantia de qualidade de ligas relacionadas com lotes (Lee et al., 2022). Originalmente concebido principalmente para aplica\u00e7\u00f5es em pol\u00edmeros, o sistema foi recentemente optimizado para medir materiais mais duros, como ligas met\u00e1licas e metais puros. Ao alargar as gamas de for\u00e7a at\u00e9 20 N e ao aumentar as dimens\u00f5es das amostras, os materiais met\u00e1licos mais exigentes podem agora tamb\u00e9m ser caracterizados com precis\u00e3o.  <\/p><p>Num ensaio t\u00edpico de flex\u00e3o de 3 pontos, foi analisada uma amostra de n\u00edquel com um comprimento de 8,4 mm, um di\u00e2metro de 5,12 mm e uma espessura de 0,2 mm. A medi\u00e7\u00e3o foi efectuada a 50 \u00b0C, utilizando uma for\u00e7a est\u00e1tica de 500 mN e uma for\u00e7a sinusoidal sobreposta de 1 N adicional.
