Durante este processo, s\u00e3o formadas liga\u00e7\u00f5es qu\u00edmicas em grupos reactivos. <\/p><p><strong>As reac\u00e7\u00f5es come\u00e7am com o aumento da temperatura e a adi\u00e7\u00e3o de subst\u00e2ncias (endurecedores) que formam uma ponte entre os grupos reactivos.<\/strong><\/p><p>Os dur\u00f3meros formam uma rede espacial de malha apertada. Isto confere-lhes uma elevada resist\u00eancia. A rede de elast\u00f3meros \u00e9 de malha larga. Isto significa que as macromol\u00e9culas est\u00e3o finamente dispersas num solvente. A uma temperatura m\u00ednima que depende do sistema polim\u00e9rico, as reac\u00e7\u00f5es de reticula\u00e7\u00e3o come\u00e7am na solu\u00e7\u00e3o, dando origem a um gel. O gel \u00e9 constitu\u00eddo pelos componentes reticulados, agora insol\u00faveis, e os espa\u00e7os entre eles cont\u00eam solvente. Embora o sol se torne s\u00f3lido num per\u00edodo de tempo mais longo, pode ser novamente liquefeito atrav\u00e9s da aplica\u00e7\u00e3o de calor. <\/p><p>Acima deste limite de temperatura, as reac\u00e7\u00f5es de reticula\u00e7\u00e3o come\u00e7am ap\u00f3s um determinado &#8220;tempo de repouso&#8221;. O &#8220;tempo de repouso&#8221; \u00e9 reduzido e a taxa de rea\u00e7\u00e3o aumenta com o aumento da temperatura. <\/p><p>A rea\u00e7\u00e3o de reticula\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 irrevers\u00edvel. O tempo de processamento da mistura inicial depende do tempo de repouso.   <strong>Este per\u00edodo \u00e9 conhecido como &#8220;pot life&#8221;.
