Polistyren jest szeroko stosowany w opakowaniach, izolacjach, pojemnikach i innych produktach codziennego u\u017cytku.<br>Jest wodoodporny, chemicznie oboj\u0119tny i odporny na kwasy i zasady, ale wra\u017cliwy na rozpuszczalniki organiczne. Mo\u017ce by\u0107 odlewany w formach z drobnymi detalami i mo\u017ce by\u0107 przezroczysty lub w r\u00f3\u017cnych kolorach. Jest ekonomiczny i u\u017cywany do produkcji plastikowych zestaw\u00f3w modelarskich, ramek na tablice rejestracyjne, plastikowych sztu\u0107c\u00f3w, pude\u0142ek na p\u0142yty CD, do produkcji modeli, jako alternatywny materia\u0142 na p\u0142yty i wielu innych przedmiot\u00f3w, w kt\u00f3rych po\u017c\u0105dany jest do\u015b\u0107 sztywny, ekonomiczny plastik.  <\/p><p>Polistyren mo\u017ce wyst\u0119powa\u0107 w postaci sta\u0142ej lub spienionej. Og\u00f3lnie polistyren jest przezroczysty, twardy i kruchy. Jest to niedroga \u017cywica w przeliczeniu na jednostk\u0119 masy i ma stosunkowo nisk\u0105 <g id=\"gid_0\">temperatur\u0119 topnienia<\/g>.
