Les investissements les plus importants sont r\u00e9alis\u00e9s dans le secteur du b\u00e2timent, de l&#8217;emballage et de l&rsquo;industrie, mais les v\u00eatements et les peaux d&rsquo;animaux fonctionnent \u00e9galement selon le m\u00eame principe. L&rsquo;objectif est toujours de r\u00e9duire au maximum la conduction de chaleur, mais aussi la convection et le rayonnement.   <\/p><p>La mesure la plus importante est la conductivit\u00e9 thermique (\u03bb, lambda) d&rsquo;un mat\u00e9riau. Elle indique la facilit\u00e9 avec laquelle la chaleur est transport\u00e9e \u00e0 travers un mat\u00e9riau. Les pierres, le b\u00e9ton ou le m\u00e9tal sont en revanche tr\u00e8s peu isolants. La plupart des mat\u00e9riaux d&rsquo;isolation courants (PUR, EPS, laine de roche, laine de verre) utilisent des poches d&rsquo;air (pores) pour r\u00e9duire le flux de chaleur. Pour l&rsquo;isolation des conduites d&rsquo;eau chaude et des r\u00e9servoirs, la mousse de polyur\u00e9thane domine.  <\/p><p><strong>Emballage :<\/strong> pour les cha\u00eenes du froid (aliments, vaccins, etc.), on utilise des mat\u00e9riaux isolants multicouches, des films thermiques et la technologie du vide.<\/p><p><strong>V\u00eatements et vie quotidienne :<\/strong> les v\u00eatements d&rsquo;hiver de qualit\u00e9 utilisent le pouvoir isolant de l&rsquo;air emprisonn\u00e9 dans les fibres ou le duvet.
