La premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape consiste en la formation d&rsquo;un semi-hydrate (<sub>CaSO\u2084<\/sub> \u2219<sub>2H\u2082O<\/sub>\u2192<sub>CaSO\u2084<\/sub> \u2219<sub>\u00bdH\u2082O<\/sub>). \n\nUne d\u00e9shydratation suppl\u00e9mentaire conduit \u00e0 la formation de l&rsquo;anhydride (<sub>CaSO\u2084\u00b7<\/sub> \u00bd<sub>H\u2082O<\/sub>\u2192 <sub>CaSO\u2084<\/sub>). Accompagn\u00e9e d&rsquo;un effet exothermique \u00e0 environ 340 \u00b0C, l&rsquo;anhydride se transforme en sulfate de calcium \u03b2. L&rsquo;effet exothermique observ\u00e9 sur la courbe \u00e0 environ 1 220 \u00b0C correspond \u00e0 la transformation du sulfate de calcium \u03b2 en sulfate de calcium \u03b1. La d\u00e9composition du sulfate se traduit par une nouvelle perte de masse \u00e0 des temp\u00e9ratures sup\u00e9rieures \u00e0 1 250 \u00b0C.   \n\nLe sulfate de calcium est transform\u00e9 en oxyde de calcium. La fusion d&rsquo;un m\u00e9lange eutectique de sulfate de calcium et d&rsquo;oxyde de calcium atteint son pic \u00e0 1 380 \u00b0C.
