It conforms to the standards ASTM E1461, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dinmedia.de\/de\/norm\/din-en-821-2\/3023563\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>DIN EN 821<\/strong><\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.astm.org\/c0714-23.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ASTM C714<\/strong><\/a>. The method dates back to Parker et al., who developed the analysis in 1961 to measure the three thermophysical properties cp, a und <strong>\u03bb<\/strong>.<\/p><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linseis.com\/en\/service-support\/methods-of-thermal-analysis\/the-flash-method\/\"><strong>principle of laser flash<\/strong><\/a> analysis is based on a vertical application of energy to the bottom side of the sample. The time offset between the energy input on the bottom side of the sample and the energy output on the top side of the sample is used to determine the thermal diffusivity of the sample material.<\/p><p>Since thermal diffusivity depends on temperature, the sample is heated to the desired temperature in an oven; the subsequent measurement is then carried out using an isothermal process. To that end, the bottom side of a sample is exposed to a short pulse of energy (xenon flash lamp or laser).<\/p><p>The energy absorbed causes a temperature increase in a thin layer on the surface of the sample. As a matter of fact, part of the heat supplied is lost through radiation, convection, or through heat dissipation into the area surrounding the sample. These effects were corrected through various mathematical processes such as iterative approximation solutions and are implemented in special evaluation software so that ultimately, the laser flash method delivers very precise measurement results over a wide temperature range.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5ef4e9a elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5ef4e9a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"> Determining Cp through Laser-Flash Analysis<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8d36621 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8d36621\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe property\u00a0<em>c<sub>p<\/sub><\/em>\u00a0can be determined through a comparison method using laser flash analysis. To that end, the LFA device is calibrated using a reference with a known\u00a0<em>c<sub>p<\/sub><\/em>. The sample is then measured under the exact same conditions (dimensions, graphite coating, and temperature program).\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element
